If you’ve considered becoming a craniosacral therapist for babies, I’m excited to bring you a little taste of what our Infant CST offerings are like at Beames CST training center. You’ll have a better idea of what your learning journey would look like with us, and I’ll be sharing even more information in our 4-part episode miniseries starting in January 2023.
This episode explains more about what you can expect to learn from us at Beames CST when you’re on your journey to becoming a craniosacral therapist for babies. We start with the initial foundations prerequisite course with 4 additional courses completed after that. You’ll be learning many different treatment techniques you can use to help a baby process birth trauma and improve latch, as well as more specialized techniques that will treat specific symptoms like reflux and torticollis. We’ll be diving deep into cranial anatomy and how we can help treat cranial nerve dysfunction in babies, no matter what their birth experience was like.
I truly believe this is the BEST job ever, and it’s pretty spectacular to see the results you can produce on babies when using the proper techniques. I can’t wait to share more detailed information about each specific course in the upcoming episodes so you know exactly what you’ll be learning, and how you can apply it to your clients.

How important is it to know the birth story for a particular baby, as well as the pregnancy? When it comes to caring for infants as a craniosacral therapist, it’s extremely important so we know how to best help and treat the baby.
Every pregnancy and birth experience is unique, and it’s never black and white. The maternal pelvis and how much movement is happening there plays a huge role in the position for the baby, as well as the whole labor process. Babies instinctively know how to be born and how to navigate themselves through the birth canal during labor, which is pretty incredible.
This episode explains more about the positioning of the baby (why it’s good or bad), and what it might do to its infant body, as well as the movements in labor babies are able to do so they can actually be born. Obstetrical interventions also play a major part in the birth process and how a baby feels, feeds, and sleeps once they’re born. Ultimately, it’s vital that your baby feels love and receives proper healing; they shouldn’t have to carry the events of a painful birth experience for the rest of their lives.

How much do parents REALLY want to know during a craniosacral therapy session? As a craniosacral therapist, we see things that the average parent might not see. Therefore, we must be very careful with how much information we share.
Generally, there are three types of parents. One, the parents that want to know everything. Two, the parents that don’t care to know all of the details. They just want their baby to be better. Three, the parents that shouldn’t receive too much information due to already being overwhelmed with having a baby that’s struggling.
This episode explains why it’s not only important to assess the baby, but also get a sense for what the parents are like. It’s important for them to feel like they have all the answers that they need. As therapists, we are here to support them. We’re not here to give them more stress and anxiety.

Is your baby’s belly button an innie or an outie? Does it really matter? The answer, surprisingly, is yes!
The differences between innies and outies extend beyond simple aesthetics, and outie bellybuttons are specifically associated with a number of health challenges for young babies. Having an outie belly button often goes hand-in-hand with a variety of physical symptoms, which may include trouble burping, trouble latching, and reflux issues.
This episode focuses on the prominent outie belly buttons that are generally seen in the very young newborn stage, usually between the ages of one week and five months. These bellybuttons tend to balloon out during the times when the baby is straining to poop or to pass gas.
If you’re the parent of a baby with an outie — or a practitioner who regularly works with newborns — then this is an episode you won’t want to miss!

Let’s make no mistake here. Appointment fatigue is REAL.
Think about it: the logistics and hassle of planning out the diaper bag and packing the stroller, making sure that the little one is clean, fed, and ready to go, and even changing out of those comfy, at-home yoga pants (yes, we all have them!) — and that’s before we even consider traffic and parking. With so many must-do items to check off the list, it’s no wonder that new parents can begin to feel overwhelmed by the very idea of leaving the house!
And guess what — it’s okay to listen to your body and cancel an appointment if you need to.
For many parents who are struggling with feeding issues, having a week that includes two or three appointments is not uncommon. Even without the added stress of feeding issues, that would be a lot! Recognizing when you have reached your limits and need to step back from an appointment takes courage. This episode is all about recognizing when you need to say “not now,” honouring the needs of your body and mind, and finding new ways to reduce appointment fatigue.

Gassiness, colic, difficulty gaining weight, fussiness, coughing while nursing, latching challenges… it all points to tongue tie. Once you’ve made the diagnosis and the baby undergoes their revision procedure (either a frenectomy or a frenotomy), what comes next?
For many babies, a tongue tie revision will resolve their nursing issues. For others, however, the tongue tie revision is just a first step. The really unlucky ones may even deal with frenulum reattachment — a truly frustrating experience for families!
Craniosacral therapy is an invaluable tool for ensuring the best outcomes after revision and can even help to prevent recurrence, which is not only great news for the little one and their family, but for the reputation of your practice.
Last week’s episode covered the importance of bodywork while preparing for a frenectomy or frenotomy. In this episode, you’ll learn why craniosacral therapy is the missing piece for effective tongue tie revision aftercare. If you’re a professional who performs tongue tie revisions, you WON’T want to miss this episode!

Should bodywork be a key part of the frenectomy/frenotomy preparation that you offer your clients? The answer is a resounding YES!
Tongue tie is a condition that restricts the tongue’s range of motion, making it difficult for babies to latch or nurse properly. If a baby is unable to keep their tongue in the right position, they may have difficulty swallowing or wind up chewing on the nipple rather than sucking it — certainly not fun for anyone! A frenectomy or frenotomy surgically corrects tongue tie through removing or snipping the piece of tissue that tethers the tongue too tightly to the floor of the mouth.
While tongue tie revision is a widely practiced intervention, it’s not perfect! Fascial tension and tightness can continue to cause the tongue to remain on the floor of the mouth, even after the surgery has been completed.
Providing 1-2 sessions of bodywork before a baby’s surgery can greatly improve their chances of success — and even help to heal some of the lingering effects of birth trauma that may be causing the little one pain or stress!
In this week’s episode of the MyBaby Craniosacral Podcast, I reveal the 3 biggest reasons why bodywork is an absolutely essential part of preparing for a tongue tie revision.

What do you get when you combine lactation consulting with craniosacral therapy? You get a smoother, less frustrating, and more enlightening postpartum experience!
My guest, Dr Sarah Winward, is a Naturopathic Doctor, breastfeeding expert, and former doula who helps parents meet their feeding goals with their babies and better understand the challenges they may be facing. As an IBCLC with craniosacral training, Sarah has the superpower of being able to diagnose and treat the root causes of nursing issues — leading to easier feedings, happier babies, and relieved parents!
During this interview, we talk all things lactation, including why we need to start demanding better lactation care in hospitals, what makes shopping mall or airport feedings so inefficient, and why we need to reject the myth that feeding is “supposed” to be painful.

Today I’m answering the question from someone thinking of becoming a craniosacral therapist: What if I can’t feel anything? Let’s talk about the elusive craniosacral rhythm.
Let’s talk about what it’s been like treating during Covid- both the struggles and opportunities, as a human and as a business.
This episode is all about side preference- when a baby turns their head to one side more than the other, or only to one side.
Most of us start off inside the womb, and each womb is different. Today we’re talking about positioning in utero and how it affects the baby.
Hello! This week on the MyBaby podcast I’m giving a broad overview of craniosacral therapy, and how it affects and works with baby bodies specifically.
Hey there! Welcome to episode one! For the first week I’m going to tell you the story of how I got into infant craniosacral therapy. Maybe this will inspire you to come join me; maybe it will just remind you that it’s never too late to switch directions in life.
